The 470 km drive from Merzouga to Fez may be long, but it’s filled with scenic surprises and perfect photo stops. If you’d rather not do the full drive in one go, consider breaking the journey with a night in the quiet town of Zaida. Along the way, don’t miss the magical Monkey Forest near Azrou, where you can interact with wild Barbary macaques, or take a short detour to Ifrane—known as “Little Switzerland” for its alpine charm and cool mountain air. If you’re traveling by car, a smart tip is to book accommodation outside the chaotic Medina of Fes for easier parking and a smoother arrival. We spent a night in the charming port town of El Jadida, where we stayed at the cozy Les Cyprès, and then moved on to the peaceful village of Oualidia. As our journey neared its end, we made our way to Essaouira often called “the jewel of the Atlantic”—and it truly lived up to the name. Whether it was kitesurfing on the wind-swept beach, taking peaceful camel rides along the shore, or wandering through the relaxed souks filled with charming cafés and delicious seafood restaurants, Essaouira quickly became one of our favorite destinations on our Morocco itinerary 14 days. A morning visit to the bustling fish market added a local flavor we won’t forget. We stayed at the Atlas Essaouira & Spa, an ideal spot for that final touch of comfort.

On Day 14, during our return to Marrakesh (200 km), we kept our eyes peeled and luck was on our side, spotting the iconic tree-climbing goats along the roadside! These last moments were spent soaking in Morocco’s magic, capturing our final memories, and doing a bit of shopping before closing this unforgettable Morocco 2 week itinerary.
